The chaos and messiness of my office is directly linked to the number of review items I have on the go at any one time. Witness the disorder…usually I have next to nothing cluttering up my desktop except for the table section on the right of the U-shaped desk. Physical hardware items I’m currently reviewing: two new Zunes, an AT&T Tilt, a 6GB microSD, an iGo Juice everywhere85, a few software packages, and a few other items. I’ve got to stop asking for new things to review – I almost had my review queue empty, then the flood gates opened up…
More pictures after the break. I hope there’s nothing embarrassing left out. ๐
A question: as it seems like you have hardwood flooring, do you get any marks on it from the wheels under the chair(s)?
I’ve previously seen some pretty nasty marks on hardwood flooring caused by dust and sand (?) getting stuck under the wheels. So, now I’m terrified of getting any chair with wheels damaging the wooden floor. ๐
(Oh, I hit the submit button too early)
Btw, I think your desk still looks neat compared to what mine looks after reading to exams and writing essays. You really do not want to see it and neither do I! (Hint: imagine skyscraper high piles of papers falling over your desk.) ๐
Very impressive office if I may comment. I love the furniture/decor. Very clean lines… And your “mess” is obviously just a product of you being busy. If I may ask, where did you get the shelving mounted on your wall? Ikea? Most of the furniture looks Ikea’ish, but just a guess.
As for the hardwood, I use a chair on mine at home, but I’ve bought those plastic/rubber clear pads to roll on. Otherwise they do scratch slightly. I am guessing that Jason’s floor is laminate, which is much more resistant to scratches, dents, etc…
I’ve been lurking your site randomly for a couple of months now, so I thought I’d finally post something and say “Hi”. I work with your Dad in the IT Department and looked up your Thoughts Media page one day when he said you wrote for Microsoft, etc… Hope you don’t mind!
Filip,
The hardware is pre-finished laminate flooring: it’s much, much tougher than regular hardware. So I have no issues with roller marks. A couple of panels are lifting slightly and will need to be replaced, but it’s really easy with laminate. I’ve had two homes with laminate flooring – I love it!
Cold Flame,
Thanks for stopping by – it’s not often (ever?) that my world and my father’s world cross over, so it’s funny to hear that you work with him. ๐
Nice office (even though it’s cluttered)! I think you need a couple more monitors though… ๐
T-Will,
I realize you’re being sarcastic, but you wouldn’t believe how HOT it gets in my office when all four monitors are on and blazing…I don’t think I can take any more. ๐
And not a Mac to be found…
For shame…
For shame…
Vinny,
I have no room for a Mac. That’s my excuse! ๐
Jason,
No, I don’t imagine that they would ever cross over. Ever need an employee, let me know! I love gadgets, and love writing, so… ๐
Cold Flame,
At the moment the only true employees of Thoughts Media are myself and my wife (and a developer in Italy that I pay, but it’s almost more of an honorarium). However, if you’re interested in volunteering your time on our review team to review gadgets, that’s something we can certainly talk about. Use the contact form to drop me an email.
I’ve got similar flooring to Jason and have had no problems with scratching from rolling my chair around on it. The surface layer of laminate flooring is the same material as in standard countertops, it is made to take a beating and will actually hold up better than wood. The difference is that wood degrades nicely when damaged as opposed to laminate that looks pretty bad if it gets messed up.
Saw the post about the slimeline hp over at digital and remembered this post. How does it look today?:-)
Micael,
I haven’t changed much in my office since then, although it is slightly less cluttered – I’m trying to get a few things sold on Kijiji and/or eBay, and I have a few things to review…the never-ending process of trying to get caught up, and ahead, continues. ๐
