(A:) You can't - this needs to be in main RAM.

(Q:) Soft reset? Hard reset? What do these
mean?
(A:) Soft Rest is hitting the reset button, or using the software reset some
OEM's have created. A hard reset (also called a "cold boot") involves
taking out both your main and backup batteries (or reading your manual to see
what button combination will do the same thing). You'll lose all your data this
way, so be sure to back it all up!

(Q:) What's the best kind of AA or AAA
battery to use?
(A:) This varies on what your definition of "best" is. Lithium Ion
batteries will last the longest, but they are expensive. More battery
information can be found here: http://www.cewindows.net/battery.htm

(Q:) Is it possible to use a Windows CE
computer with a mobile phone?
(A:) Yes, although it depends on your model of mobile phone, whether it is
data compatible and whether your mobile phone network allows it. Once everything
is configured, you can use your Windows CE computer (handheld or palmtop) to do
anything which you could do other an ordinary modem. This means you can connect
to the Internet for email, news, IRC, Web browsing and so on. You can also send
and receive faxes and synchronise with your desktop computer. Remember though
that currently the top speed of data over digital mobile phone networks is
9600bps, so don't try too many of these things at once! Socket
Communications is working on a very cool CompactFlash digital phone card, so
be sure to check it out - if your network supports data transfer, this is a
slick way of doing it! Submitted by John Kennedy.

(Q:) What phone do you recommend?
(A:) At the moment the Ericsson SH888 dual-band mobile phone is the model of
choice. It contains a built-in GSM modem, and it has an IrDA compliant Infrared
port. This means you can use it by simply placing it close to your Windows CE
machine: no cables are required. Nokia has recently brought out a new model
called the 8810, which apparently offers the same features although reports of
it working reliably with Windows CE devices are not yet conclusive. Nokia has
released a WinCE driver for its 8810 mobile phone. You can find this
"driver" (a script, about the same of Ericsson SH888) on http://www.forum.nokia.com/support/8810/download/sn8810_ce.pdf
and you can find installation instructions at http://www.forum.nokia.com/support/8810/download/s8810wind.pdf .

(Q:) You lucky Europeans! Where can I get an
SH888 in America?
(A:) Ericsson has brought the I888 to the US market.
It is a "world" phone which works on both the DCS1900
and the GSM900 cellular net. I've heard that http://www.powertel.com/
uses them - check with your local cell phone provider.

(Q:) I have an XYZ mobile phone, will it work
with my Windows CE computer?
(A:) That depends. At the moment, most mobile phones require connection to an
interface which sits between the phone and the computer. Most of these
interfaces are in the form of PC-Card (PCMCIA) cards, designed for Windows 95
computers. This means they won't work with Windows CE machines (and that's
assuming you have a PC-Card slot in the first place). The Ericsson SH888 is
different in that it has this interface card built-in it only requires a
serial link to the computer, and this link can be over IR as the phones have
suitable ports.

(Q:) I have a HP Jornada HPC or
Palm-size PC. I want to
use it with my IR compatible mobile phone (such as the Ericsson SH888). I
noticed that one of the modems is "Raw IR port on COM4:". Can I use
this to connect to the phone?
(A:) This doesn't appear to work. You need to create your own IR port, mapped to
COM3:, as with the other handheld / palmsized computers. In other words, you
need to edit the registry. This can be difficult if you don't have access to a
PC based Registry Editor, as programs for the HP are few and far between at the
moment.

(Q:) My Jornada has a USB port. Can I
plug in any USB hardware? I'm thinking of digital cameras, Sparq drives and so
on here.
(A:) Not at the moment. Although the Jornada has a USB port, it only has one
driver built-in as standard and that is for a mouse. So while you can plug in a
mouse and use it straight away, you cannot connect any other hardware
(keyboards, speakers etc) unless the manufacturer specifically supplies you with
a CE compatible USB driver. If you want a CE driver for a particular item, you
should pester the manufacturer until they write one.

(Q:) I have a CF card in my Nino,
but when I use a CF adaptor and connect it to my laptop PC via the PCMCIA port,
it doesn't work. The laptop says the CF is a disk which it can't read!
(A:) You should be able to read any CF card used in a Windows CE directly on a
Windows95/98/NT computer. However, it's possible that if the CF card was brand
new, the Nino formatted it only enough for it to read and write to the card
itself. If you re-format the card in the laptop after backing it up of
course you will find you can access it both from the Nino and the laptop.

(Q:) I want to use the IR port on my CE
device to link with my desktop PC. However, my desktop PC doesn't have an IR
port. What can I do?
(A:) You can buy an add-on IR adaptor for your PC. This usually attaches to the
serial port, and models such as the ACYiSYS IR 220L or Belkin units work very
well indeed. Some PC motherboards have a set of pins for connecting directly to
a set of IR LEDs, and you should contact your dealer to see if these are
available for your particular machine.

(Q:) Can I use the wheel on a USB Microsoft
Intellimouse with my Jornada 820?
(A:) No. You would need a Windows CE version of IntelliPoint in order
to take advantage of the wheel. Right now there is no information for
whether Microsoft will provide this software. You can use the USB mouse in
your Jornada 820 just like any "normal" mouse by simply plugging it
into your Jornada 820. If you want to use other USB devices, bug the
manufacturer of those devices until they make the drivers!

(Q:) What sort of things can I install onto
my CompactFlash card?
(A:) When you install 3rd party software, it will usually ask you
"Install to default location". Answer NO, and if the app is
well-written, it will give you the option to install to a flash card. You can't
(yet) move your core databases into the CF card (contacts, etc.). For more on CF
